You Are a Badass Reminded Me that I Always Was A Badass

If you are looking for a bit-sized self-help book to help you stop doubting your greatness and live an awesome life, then, You Are a Badass is a great choice. Written by Jen Sincero, it coaches you on the ‘How-To….’  in four parts. They are:

  • How you got this way?
  • How to embrace the inner badass?
  • How to tab into the motherload?
  • How to get away from your Big Snooze? and finally,
  • How to kick some ass?

The direct writing style was engaging. I felt I was being coached. It conveyed the message with clarity and followed a common structure that started with a quote, then the theoretical content and finally ended with ‘How To’…

Take, for example, a chapter on meditation in part three.  It started with a quote, then the theoretical about meditation and its benefits in bulleted points and finally ended with short and simple steps on ‘How To’  with some options and suggestions that I’d try out.

I have been meditating for over a year, and I can acknowledge that I follow a similar ‘How To’ and experienced all the benefits. Besides, there are quite a few quotes I loved and resonated with. They are:

  • Forgiveness means giving up all hope for a better past.
  • I have lived a long life and had many troubles, most of which never happened.
  • If you want to find the secrets of the universe, think in terms of energy, frequency, and vibration.
  • You are never alone or helpless, the force that guides the stars, guides you. (a quote that begins the chapter on meditation.)

How did you find these? thought-provoking? Reflective? These and many others come from note-worthy books, people that include: Joseph Campbell, James Allen, Lily Tomlin, and Mark Twain.

This book was a fab blend of a refresher of lessons with quite a few new contents, perspectives, and realizations that were inspiring, impactful, motivating, and enhanced my clarity.

Some of my learnings and realization unique to the book are:

  • Life is an illusion created by your perception and it can be changed any moment you want to change it
  • Forgiveness is all about taking care of yourself. It’s about putting your desires to feel good before your desire to be right.
  • When we want something so, so badly and are working tirelessly to get it, if we don’t surrender, we end up pushing it away instead. There comes a point where we need to hand the job to the universe. It doesn’t mean we stop taking action, it means we let go energetically to create space for what we want to come to us.

You Are a Badass reminded me that I always was a badass and didn’t realize it. It’s a great book to help you stop doubting your greatness and live an awesome life.
