Did You Ever Stop to Notice, The Crying Earth, The Weeping Shores?

What about sunrise
What about rain
What about all the things
That you said we were to gain…

What about killing fields
Is there a time
What about all the things
That you said was yours and mine…

Did you ever stop to notice
All the blood we’ve shed before?
Did you ever stop to notice
The crying Earth the weeping shores?

Michael Jackson’s: Earth Song

Look how relevant it is, with respect to the events in recent times:

1. Amazon Rain Fire

  1. The forest producing up to 20% of the earth’s oxygen was under fire.
  2. About 76,000 fires were burning.  (INPE).

2. Australia Bush-Fire

  • 28 people dead
  • 3000 homes destroyed
  • 7.3 million hectares of land burned
  • 500 million animals affected, likely dead
  • 8000 kolas speculated dead

The fires although natural, the intensity has worsened because of global warming. The  global temperature in 2019 was 1.1°C warmer than in the pre-industrial era. This increases Global Warming.

It means we can see the worst………

So, now the question arises, what causes it?

1. Fossil Fuels

Ever noticed your skin turn black during your regular commute?

2. Deforestation

Higher amount of Carbon Dioxide in the atmosphere.

3. Waste disposal

Landfills and incineration emit greenhouse and toxic gases, including methane into the atmosphere, soil and waterways, increasing the greenhouse effect.

4. Over-exploitation of natural resources

Earth: In our not so distant future.

We are responsible for it yet we hardly did anything to save it.

Do we give a damn about climate change? …….

I give a damn about it, don’t you?

Why, then this has reached at such an alarming rate that most cities  will be underwater by 2050?

TED speaker Katharine Hayhoe says, “The problem is, we don’t talk about it”. Are you aware of how alarming this has become, since it first appeared in the news 30 years ago?

Talking is the way to create awareness, change in perception and act. A news article can’t do that. It will be forgotten the next day.

But talking is just one side of the coin. The other is acting…

Initiatives taken to fight climate change:

  1. Businesses
  • Smart Waste Management companies are developing technology-oriented solutions to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of traditional waste management. Amount invested in these companies is around $8.61 Billion
  • Carbon Capture and Removal tech. It refers to the process of actively capturing carbon atoms and removing them from the atmosphere via storage or utilization in other forms. Amount invested is around $1.96 Billion.
  • Other innovative startups

2.  Government

3. Environmental activist and similar communities

I am contented to see mumbaikars achieve this . Hats off…. you are an inspiration.

3.  Philanthropists like Bill Gates and Leonardo di caprio, etc

This makes me feel positive about my future and for the upcoming smarter generation, wouldn’t you?

I’m sorry to be the bearer of bad news because all this….. it won’t be enough.

When I said we hardly did anything  to save it, I meant personally.

We need to change our ways into eco-friendly, all of us.  Only then the earth will sustain, or else it will become inhabitable. I don’t want that to happen. Do you?

What are the changes at a personal level that we could do?

  1. Solar electricity
  2. Save water
  3. Don’t waste energy
  4. Use LED Bulbs. (I use LED bulbs and I am super proud of it)
  5. Commute green. Eco-friendly vehicles, walk, bicycles. (Super proud of this too)
  6. Save water and electricity. Don’t keep taps running and prevent pipe leakages in your societies.

What are you super proud off? If you aren’t of anything, its better late than never.

Small changes starting at your homes combined with all the above will create a great impact.

It’s happening whether you like it or not. It’s time to rise up and act. It’s time to be a responsible child and save its mother from dying.

I would love to hear from you in the comments section regarding your innovative method you are practicing at a personal level to fight this growing nightmare.
